Red string: maps

A map is a folded piece of map pinned to the board. Its style follows the board theme (atlas on paper, vintage on cork, night on dark), and you can change it per map. Places are circled in marker. Map data: OpenStreetMap, via OpenFreeMap tiles and the Photon place search, both free with no API key.

How it's made. Search a place or address, frame it, click to circle extra places, pick a style, then pin it. On the board it's frozen as a picture, so it loads instantly, exports cleanly and never shifts if map data changes. Double-click it to re-open this window and re-frame.

Later sources: satellite imagery (needs a paid key), and old historical maps (for example the National Library of Scotland's scanned Ordnance Survey maps) for period boards.
The open question: can string tie to a circled place?
